Valintin “Val” Alnas Jr., 55, of West Hollywood, Calif., formerly of Paauhau, died Nov. 3 in California. Born in Westerly, R.I., he worked for Macy’s, Bullocks, Mauna Lani Bay Hotel, and Sure Save Supermarket and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Dec. 15 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Honokaa; memorial at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by parents, Val and Shirley Alnas of Paauhau; brother, Ray (Candy) Alnas of Hilo; sisters, Sharlene “Lani” Alnas of Oakland, Calif., Crissy (Tim) Smith of Honokaa, Dana (Tim) Costa of Honolulu; four nephews, four nieces, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Gloria Jean Danford, 87, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 28 at home. Born in Evanston, Ill., she was a homemaker and a former food demonstrator for Costco. Private services. Survived by daughters, Pamela Mahi and Deborah Kent of Kailua-Kona; son, Danny Danford of Kailua-Kona; sister, Luella (Curly) Greening of Shelby Shores, Ala.; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Eugene Wilson Hewitt, 94, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 24 at home. Born in Odon, Ind., he was a retired electrician for the federal government and a U.S. Navy veteran. No services. Kirino “Kay” Kawamoto, 86, of Papaikou died Nov. 5 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Onomea, she was a homemaker and member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission and Mill Camp Kumiai.
